Organizations are one of the key user groups available in Performance.
What a user can access and what is included in reports is controlled by the organizations to which the user is assigned. An organization is configured to provide access to certain information and then all members assigned to that organization have access to the organization’s data.
Large companies or agencies may have complex mapping assignments to campuses, users, audiences, catalogs, and managers to control the attributes and access provided to a user.
When required for some companies, Performance supports hierarchical organizational structures such as Division, Region, District, Dealer, etc. Another structure might be simpler, such as Company and Locations. For each organization type you need to determine what organization type it can fall under.
Many-to-many relationships are supported among organizations. For instance, a bottom level Dealer may fall under multiple Districts that fall under regions that in turn fall under Divisions. If a one-to-one, or a one-to-many mapping is sufficient, this simplifies the implementation, especially with regard to reporting.
In cases where users belong to multiple organizations, one of these organizations is normally set as the primary, to facilitate data mapping such as which organization’s security settings control course approvals for a user. As such, each organization type can be set to allow primary mapping or not.
The ability to create such complex structures provides tremendous flexibility in granting access to Performance resources.
